Sheet Change Notification Settings in Personal Settings

Hi, My team found out there is a setting on Smartsheet that is blocking the automations we have put in place. We did some testing and had this checked off, next second it was unchecked on its own. Checked it again, went to another sheet and it's unchecked again. This is throwing us off with our automations and email notifications. We also looked on our Admin Center to see if we could have this turned on permanently for all our users but unable to find such option. Does anyone have a solution to this yet?

Hi @Shirley Ho
People can also unsubscribe from specific notification workflows, which will stop them from getting the notifications.
Go to your automations, click on the menu to the right and hit the properties option. This will tell you if someone has unsubscribed from the workflow
If someone has unsubscribed from the workflow, the only way to get them back , is by recreating the automation and setting it to fire again.Marcé Holzhauzen

hi @MarceHolzhauzen,
for a second I was thinking the same but would this automatically check out the box?

Hi guys @kowal and @Shirley Ho
I doubt that the setting Shirley is referring to is blocking other user from receiving notifications, as this setting applies to your own changes.
I had a quick read on and this little sentence over here is what got me to my conclusionIncluding "my changes" only refers to changes that you make. So this would not affect how a different user is notified of changes.
From what I understand, what Shirley is saying is that users have found a way to NOT be notified at all.
Here are a few other articles that address that issue
It could be that there is an issue with the "allow list" - this is relevant if the user is new. And not if a user used to receive notifications and now they don't

@kowal This was a more definitive reply I got from Smartsheet Support:
Hello,
Thank you for contacting Smartsheet Support. I understand that you are having problems with your sheet change notifications settings are being switched off by itself without your input. I would be glad to guide you through this.
Upon checking and testing here on our end, the possible cause of the issue of your sheet change notifications being switched off is due to link sniffers. When a user receives notification that is triggered by the changes we made on the sheet, the email footer includes a hyperlink that says "Exclude your changes from all notifications" at the bottom of the email. With that, if there are multiple clicks after the email was delivered that are in short succession, then it is possible link sniffers are activating the said hyperlink and thus switching off the sheet change notifications in your sheet.
If so, you will need to reach out to your IT team and have them add these email domains to the link sniffer allow list.
A link sniffer can be an app used by companies or IT to act as a security checker for emails that can or might have suspicious links and that the allowlist is a list for the link sniffer to be made an exception on which the domains there can be trusted and therefore not checked or clicked anymore. Hence the suggestion we made above so that the exclude clickable link from Smartsheet would not be clicked anymore.
The executable or clickable link is put there as an option by design that cannot be taken off or removed currently as it is there to be selected as an option for some users who do not want to be notified of any notifications or for users who are receiving “ghost notifications” from old sheets that they do not use anymore. It is an option given for those users also who do not want to go Login to Smartsheet just to turn off the sheet change notification manually hence the option in the Email.
Thanks for using Smartsheet!
Kind regards,
John

My issue actually started with some of my automations not delivering/executing. Our automation is simply an email notification when there are changes on certain columns:
i.e. Trigger: When rows are changed
When [column] changes to: Any Value (we have this repeated on multiple columns)
Alert someone - Send to specific people
Customize message - Send from triggering user (with Subject Line and a link in body of the email) - Include Message only
It's the simplest automation ever and it only works on two sheets out of 20 others. This is when we found out about the Sheet Change Notification Settings, that it unchecks on its own. Sometimes it gets unchecked when we go to another sheet even though we specifically checked it elsewhere. We figured this setting should be global once checked, account-based not sheet-based. And we are absolutely sure this is not caused by "unsubscribing" notifications as I did not get the automation myself nor my team members, no matter who made the changes that met the criteria. I posted the response from Smartsheet Support above, or it might be a glitch, but will definitely try it out.

I had no clue that this could be also caused by email provider.
But I guess the Support is right and you should whitelist the smartsheet domains.

hi @Shirley Ho,
I would not guess it could be caused by Email Software but I guess it's correct. You need to ask your IT department to whitelist the smartsheet domains.
